🐾 From sideways to straight ahead
Now we move into the slightly more difficult part of the transition:
turning from the sideways position into normal forward walking.
Do this gradually.
Do not suddenly turn all the way around at once. Instead, rotate a little more each time until you can finally walk straight ahead with your dog.
✋ Keep the same guiding hand
If your dog still needs the hand in front of the nose, continue using the right hand.
Do not suddenly switch to the left hand just because you are now walking forwards.
Keeping the same hand makes the picture more consistent for the dog.
If your dog no longer needs any guidance, the goal is simply to perform the Stand from normal forward movement.
🎯 Do not add distance yet
For now, continue to reward immediately after the Stand.
Do not walk away yet.
We will rebuild that part separately in a moment.
The priority here is only:
Can the dog perform the same clean Stand while you are now walking straight ahead?
⚠️ Watch your hand position carefully
This is especially important during the transition.
When walking backwards, it was harder to move the arm freely.
Now, while walking sideways or forwards, it is easy to accidentally move the hand too far forward on the “S”.
If that happens, the dog may follow the hand and move forward instead of stopping cleanly.
So remember:
➡️ “S” → hand straight up toward the armpit
➡️ “T” → hand straight back down
Not forward and then down.
💡 Work through it step by step
For some dogs, this transition is very easy.
Others may need a bit more time.
If the Stand becomes messy during the turn, go back one step and rebuild it cleanly.
The goal is a straight, controlled Stand from forward movement before adding the walking-away part again.
