🐾 From standing still to moving

Your dog can now perform the Stand from a stationary position.

The final goal, however, is to perform it while walking, so we now begin adding a small amount of movement.

To keep the picture familiar for the dog, we start with sideways movement.

➑️ Start slowly

Walk sideways with your dog for a few steps.

At first, the hand can stay close to the dog’s nose and the dog may still nibble on the food a little.

Then follow the familiar sequence:

➑️ Say β€œS”
➑️ Move the hand straight up
➑️ The dog makes the small hop
➑️ Say β€œT” and guide the hand down
➑️ Close the hand briefly
➑️ The dog remains standing and looks at the hand
➑️ Reward

🐒 Keep the movement slow

Do not increase the pace too quickly.

For now, a slow sideways movement is completely enough.

The dog does not need to perform the exercise from a fast walk or running pace yet.

The goal is simply to introduce the idea:

β€œI can perform the same Stand even when we are moving.”

🎯 Watch how your dog handles it

Some dogs transfer the exercise into movement very easily.

Others may need several sessions before the new picture feels familiar.

πŸ’‘ Keep the pace slow, use the aids your dog already knows and only move on once the Stand remains clear and secure during the sideways movement.
