🐾 Where you should be before moving on

Before starting the next chapter, your dog should now be able to perform the Stand from forward movement.

At this stage, you are not walking away yet.

The focus is only on a clean and secure execution from normal heelwork.

🚶 The exercise should now look like this

Start with the dog sitting on your left side.

Then:

➡️ Give your announcer for the Stand
➡️ Walk forward for a few metres in normal heel position
➡️ Keep your arms relaxed
➡️ Say “S”
➡️ Move the hand up toward your armpit
➡️ The dog makes the small hop
➡️ Say “T”
➡️ Guide the dog into the Stand
➡️ Let the dog stay briefly at the closed hand
➡️ Reward immediately

If your dog still needs food guidance, use the same setup with the right hand in front of the nose.

⚠️ Watch the rear position

One common issue can appear when working with the right hand:

the dog’s rear may swing out.

If that happens, try moving the right hand slightly further away from your body so the dog naturally stays straighter.

You can also use a fence or wall as support so the rear cannot drift out as easily.

🧩 A new picture can feel strange

Remember that the dog first learned the Stand:

➡️ facing you
➡️ then from the side
➡️ and only now from normal forward movement

So some dogs may briefly try to reposition themselves because the picture looks different.

That is completely possible at this stage.

🎯 Your goal before the next chapter

Do not move on until the dog can reliably:

✅ heel forwards normally
✅ respond to the “S”
✅ make the small hop
✅ move into the Stand on “T”
✅ remain straight and secure
✅ wait briefly at the closed hand

💡 Once this works cleanly from forward movement, you are ready to start rebuilding the walking-away part in the next chapter.
