🐾 Heelwork is always a combination of dog and handler

Dog sport heelwork is always a combination of:

👉 the dog’s individual style
👉 and the handler’s style

With certain handlers — especially those who have trained multiple dogs and compete at a very high level — you will often see the same style again and again, no matter which dog they are working with.

The dogs may move in a similar way, show similar patterns and present a comparable heelwork picture.

🐕 What does your dog naturally offer?

But this is very important:

If you have a dog who naturally does not lift or throw their paws much at all, the chances of turning that into extreme paw action are relatively low.

However, a light and clean paw movement is something we can absolutely achieve through training. ✅

🤝 The key takeaway

Heelwork is always a team effort.

➡️ What does the dog naturally offer?
➡️ And what do we as handlers consciously shape and train?

💡 The balance between these two things is the key to beautiful and sustainable heelwork. 🐕‍🦺✨
